Sometimes simple surpasses superb

Robert's wife Janet shared with us how equipment items recommended by Acting Occupational Therapy Manager, Josephine Hallett, played a vital role in helping maintain Rob’s independence and participation in daily routines during his last days at home.

“He particularly liked the swivel chair in the bath so he could still safely shave under the shower," said Janet. "The tall kitchen stool meant he could sit at the kitchen bench and engage in household chores like washing up and peeling vegetables."

Janet extended special thanks for the loan of a wheelchair and comfortable cushion for Rob.

These seemingly simple items helped realise great joy and happiness by ensuring Rob’s attendance at two special occasions – a visit to Government House to receive his Order of Australia Award, and his brother’s 70th birthday celebration.

“The wheelchair and cushion also made visits to the doctors easier and usually finished up with a stroll at Balmoral Beach afterwards,” Janet said.
