A new way to care at the heart of your community

        Curtin Dementia Village
HammondCare is proud to have been selected by the ACT Government to develop Canberra’s first dementia care village. A national model for best-practice dementia care, Curtin Dementia Village, will integrate seamlessly into the surrounding community, so it feels like “just another street” in Curtin.
Informed by HammondCare’s experience over 30 years in small household design, combined with a relationship-based philosophy of care, research and innovation, Curtin Dementia Village will improve quality of life and promote independence for people living with dementia.
Our vision is to create a world-class integrated community that’s woven into the fabric of Curtin, a familiar, welcoming space where people with dementia truly belong, and where the whole community feels part of something special.

Learn about our services
Whether it’s in our innovative residences, in hospital, or in someone’s own home, we bring the same skill, experience and compassion to all we do.
We do home care, with full support
Getting older doesn’t mean you have to move out of your home – we bring the care to you, whether your needs are straightforward or complex.
Learn moreWe do residential care, that’s just like home
With specialist dementia support and 24/7 clinical care, our aged care residences put you at the centre – somewhere you’re known well, and where your choices matter.
Learn moreWe do hospital care, for real comfort
Our specialist palliative teams provide skillful, compassionate palliative care in our hospitals. Care can also come to you in residential aged care, or in your own home.
Learn moreWe do respite care, day or night
You don’t have to go it alone – we offer a little extra care for a few hours, or a few days, with personalised respite support at home, or at one of our cottages or day centres.
Learn moreWe do seniors living, with care close by
If you want the reassurance of expert in-home care that's accessible 24/7, but also the independence of your own space, our villages are the perfect solution.
Learn moreWe're building more than a care home
Having pioneered the small household model of dementia care since the 1990s, we’re continuing to evolve this model at Curtin to meet the highest care standards and respond to the needs and aspirations of the local community.
The new care community will feature:
- Dementia-specific care cottages that feel like home, not a facility - shaped by national best-practice design principles
 - Specialist support for people with more complex dementia needs, provided by our expert dementia consultants, psychiatrists and highly trained carers
 - Seniors living options that offer independence, connection and peace of mind as care needs change over time

- Support for people in the broader Curtin community, including in-home care, respite care and allied health
 - Integrated shared spaces, including gardens, walking paths, and a wellness and community hub, that invite organic interaction and connection
 - A familiar streetscape that maintains Curtin’s character and embraces its established trees and green spaces

HammondCare Curtin will be more than a place to live, it will be a place to belong, with dignity, safety and independence. A place where residents can connect with the wider Curtin community and live their best life, every day.
Watch the concept flythrough
The Curtin Dementia Village will be an integrated site with 11 dementia-specific cottages offering 90 private rooms with ensuites. The village will also feature 48 Supported Seniors Living apartments and a range of shared community spaces including a café, hairdresser, shop, wellness centre, gardens and walking paths that invite interaction and connection.
Community engagement
HammondCare is committed to genuine and inclusive consultation throughout the project.
The development of this site will be guided by the Place Development Brief, which was shaped in collaboration with stakeholders and the local community. The Brief outlines community aspirations for the site and the desired outcomes for the development of a best practice village-style model of care for people living with dementia.
We’re currently in the design phase and will be engaging with a wide range of community stakeholders over the coming months. We’ll be inviting feedback from neighbours, families, First Nations representatives, community organisations, and people with lived experience of dementia. Your insights will help shape a place that truly belongs in Curtin.
