Our Mission
Our Mission
At HammondCare, we’ve stayed true to our Mission to improve quality of life for people in need for over 90 years.
From humble beginnings providing homes for destitute families during the Great Depression in the 1930s to pioneering aged care in the 1950s, innovating in dementia care in the 1990s to now specialising in complex care, principally dementia and palliative care.

Why we care
We are passionate about serving older people regardless of their circumstances. Why? Because we believe in the value of all people as made in the image of God, and as loved by God. We are called to show the same love, with compassion and respect, for people in need.
These are the same principles and values expressed in the words and actions of Jesus Christ.
Jesus told us to love one another with the love he showed all who met him: full of gentleness and mercy, putting their needs above his own. He included the outsiders, embraced the ones considered unclean, listened to those with no voice, and stood up for the oppressed.
Jesus spoke about how serving each other, especially those in need, is in fact serving God, saying:
‘I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25: 35-40)
At HammondCare, it doesn’t matter who you are, what you believe, or how complicated your circumstances or needs, our mission reminds us that someone cares about you.
God does. We do.

Our identity
Independent
We’re often asked what ‘denomination’ we’re a part of. But we’re not linked to a specific denomination or church — instead, we work with all denominations and partners of many kinds. This enables us to respond to identified needs, wherever they may be. Our independence means that rather than following others, we are positioned to lead.
Christian
We serve people of all faiths and none. Our work is motivated by the Christian values expressed in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.
“... whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40
These words call us to show the same love, compassion and respect to anyone who needs us, without discrimination.
Charity
As a charity, we have always been motivated by values and purpose rather than profit. But that doesn’t mean we’re careless with resources. Instead, we’re responsible stewards for the public benefit. It’s our mission and privilege to understand and address needs, and we continue to take necessary risks to help those in need.
You come first
We're here for you, and we aim to empower the people we serve to live a fulfilling life until the very end. We walk side by side with residents, clients and patients, and shape care and support to their unique needs — whatever they are, wherever they are.

Towards Next Chapter
After thorough review and consultation, we developed the Next Chapter Strategy that helps fulfil our Mission as we head toward 2025. Here is a snapshot of what we plan to achieve:
- Relationship-based care for those others can’t or won’t help
- Improving evidence-based care practices
- Measuring our impact on peoples’ lives
- Shaping the sector through stories of care
