Greenwich Hospital palliative care ensures patients with a life-limiting illness are as comfortable as possible while expertly managing symptoms. We embrace the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones. Care provided also extends to those at home on Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches.

Rehabilitation

Our rehabilitation services focus on your recovery to get you back on your feet to regain independence. This includes support for people who have experienced life-altering events, such as:

  • neurological diagnosis
  • cancer diagnosis and treatment
  • mobility problems and injury
  • significant impairment after a medical or surgical illness.

Older peoples mental health

The Riverglen Unit provides a place of safety in a secure, modern setting for older people in the acute phase of a mental health condition. Our team of mental health professionals will assess your mental and physical health and recommend personalised treatment in consultation with you and your carer.

Neringah Hospital has a multidisciplinary team approach to palliative care. This means we embrace the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of you and your family.

Our team includes:

  • palliative medicine specialists and nurses
  • physiotherapists and occupational therapists
  • social workers and activity officers
  • pastoral care workers and more.

Inpatient palliative care unit

Neringah’s inpatient unit provides short-term acute care to patients managing a life-limiting illness. This covers:

  • short-term admission to alleviate symptoms and the distress they cause
  • holistic care to meet the special needs of patients in the final stages of their illness.

While Neringah Hospital accepts public hospital patients, patients with private health insurance can elect to be admitted as a private patient. If you use your private health insurance hospital cover, you will have no out-of-pocket expenses.

Community palliative care

This service helps people manage life-limiting illnesses in the home environment and clinic setting, including:

  • home visits by our specialist team
  • medical support for symptom control
  • supply of specialist equipment to help patients remain at home through the free Equipment Loan Pool
  • information and advice on advance care planning.

Patients who are well enough can attend the hospital for appointments with palliative care specialists.

A referral from your GP or treating specialist is required. There are no out of pocket expenses for this service.
