More older people living at home in Greater Sydney, the Illawarra and New England regions will benefit from not-for-profit HammondCare’s expertise in complex care, including dementia and palliative care, with the purchase of Anglicare Sydney’s community-based home care services.

The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval and transaction completion, will make HammondCare, an independent charity with a Mission to improve quality of life for people in need, the largest provider of home care services in the Greater Sydney region, and one of the largest in the nation.

HammondCare CEO Andrew Thorburn and Anglicare Sydney CEO Simon Miller together announced the HammondCare purchase. They both acknowledged the Mission alignment of the two not-for-profit Christian organisations and their similar long-standing commitments to relationship-based care.

Under the arrangement, Anglicare Sydney will work to transition approximately 1800 Support at Home clients, as well as service delivery to over 1400 Commonwealth Home Support Program clients to HammondCare across Greater Sydney and the Illawarra. The target completion date for the acquisition is 2 November 2026, from which point HammondCare will commence services to clients.

Of utmost importance to both organisations is continuity of care for Anglicare clients. Many Anglicare team members are expected to transition to HammondCare together with their clients, helping to deliver a seamless, positive process.

Home care services delivered by Anglicare Sydney within its Seniors Communities’ Villages will stay with the organisation.

Mr Thorburn said the agreement was in accordance with HammondCare’s Next Chapter Strategy to build a strong foundation in Home Care with a view to increase density and grow services for people with complex needs.

“This growth in our home care business will enable us to deliver care to even more people and fulfil our mission to improve the quality of life of people in need,” Mr Thorburn said.

 

“And importantly, clients can feel confident knowing they’re supported by an organisation that can continue to meet their needs over time, helping them to live at home for as long as they possibly can.”

Mr Miller said HammondCare’s strong missional alignment meant they were the most appropriate organisation to undertake this transaction with.

“HammondCare’s vision, mission and values align closely with Anglicare’s and I’m confident they will ensure all transferring clients are continued to be provided with high-quality care."

Mr Miller said the introduction of Support at Home is reshaping home care and requires a scale that Anglicare cannot naturally reach in the community.

“HammondCare’s larger scale means they can sustainably operate and grow community-based homecare while honouring their missional foundations,” he said.
