Pastoral Care Manager Anna shares these tips to help you feel more connected
‘At HammondCare, we believe in nurturing the whole person. Our complimentary pastoral care service tailors support based on each person’s unique life story, and where they are on their life journey. Here are some practical steps that we find helps create feelings of spiritual and emotional wellbeing and happiness.’
1. Practice mindfulness
Being fully present can provide the space in our day to notice and appreciate the small things. Take a moment to breathe deeply, focusing on the sensations around you.
Over time you may see beauty in the simplest of things, such as a blooming flower, a kind smile, or the warmth of the sun on your skin. Being in the moment helps to shift your perspective, encouraging a more positive frame of mind.
2. Start a gratitude diary
Take a few minutes each day to jot down three things you are grateful for. It could be the loving support of your friends, the joy of receiving an unexpected visitor, or the sharing of a delicious meal. Or you may like to capture cherished memories in a scrapbook, giving you a feeling of connection when you look back on them.
Creating these moments of gratitude can bring a sense of contentment and remind you of the abundance of good things already present in your life.
3. Making social connections
Feeling connected to our community is important for our emotional well-being. We can help you find local interest groups, social clubs and book clubs; people who share your values and personal interests. Our pastoral care coordinators can also support you in seeking spiritual discussions, Bible study groups, or faith-based activities.
Scheduling a regular phone call with a loved one or inviting a friend to cook a meal with you – these activities can also help bring a sense of belonging.
4. Explore ways to reduce stress
Seeking ways to calm our minds is important for maintaining our mental and physical health. By dedicating just a few minutes each day for relaxation, the reduced stress levels it provides helps you approach life with a more positive outlook. We can assist you to explore options that best meet your needs and lifestyle. Yoga, meditation and muscle relaxation techniques are just some examples.
5. Pausing to reflect on life’s meaning
Finding meaning in life is a deeply personal experience for all of us. And sharing our beliefs, aspirations, and values with people we trust can help provide clarity and a deeper sense of purpose. You may want to consider joining discussion groups or book clubs focused on these topics, where you can engage in thoughtful conversations and gain valuable insights from other like-minded people. Our pastoral care team are available to offer valuable insights and support.
