Jennifer, Richard and the loveable Skip shared their experiences with the Dogs 4 Dementia program on Nine's Today Show.

The new pilot program Dogs 4 Dementia is already changing participants' lives.

Richard Bartlett had recently been diagnosed with dementia and for Jennifer the caretaker role became overwhelming. She turned to the Australian government funded Dogs 4 Dementia program.

The program sees trained dogs placed with a person living with dementia. Skip, the two-year-old labrador was placed with Richard. He provides emotional support and an anchor that alleviates daily burden for him and for Jennifer.

The project has brought new light into their lives.

"I feel as though I'm a lot happier than what I've been for in a long time. We laugh ... we're a lot more joyful."
