Research With Us

Research Governance

HammondCare is supportive of research that aligns with our Mission and priorities, and helps us provide better care.

Each year we receive numerous requests for access to our facilities, residents, clients, families and staff. We are interested in hearing from you, but please be mindful of the following when you get in touch.

HammondCare has a robust Research Governance process that needs to be followed by both internal and external researchers and research teams. For more information and to start this process if you have a project or grant application, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

  • Requests made to the Research Governance Office need to be succinct; clearly outlining the purpose of the research, the methodology, the nature of the involvement of HammondCare residents, clients or staff, and any costs involved, whether cash or in-kind
  • HammondCare’s Research Governance Office does not provide grants for research
  • Most research needs to have valid approval from a recognised Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) for the duration of the research. If you do not yet have ethics approval, you will need to tell us where and when you will apply or why the research does not require it
  • If your research project is approved by HammondCare your project may be subject to a Site-specific Approval (SSA) review by HammondCare through our Research Governance office
  • All research projects being led by people or entities external to HammondCare needs to have a valid research agreement in place before commencement
  • All research personnel accessing any HammondCare site must meet certain criteria, including providing a valid Criminal Record Check clearance prior to the commencement of the research

Research Governance Process

Submit an initial overview of a research project or request for HammondCare to be involved in a grant submission by completing either the Application for HammondCare Grant Involvement Approval or the Research Idea and Proposal Form

If grant involvement is endorsed you will be advised and you can then proceed with your grant submission as agreed.

If your research project is endorsed you can proceed to Step 2 of the RGO process

Once your research project is academically and operationally endorsed you will be asked to submit a more detailed budget to show how HammondCare will be impacted by commitment to the project.

Your full submission is then reviewed by relevant General Manager/s of operational units before review by the Research Governance Committee.

The Committee meets every two months and approves projects to proceed once they are satisfied it fits with HammondCare’s Mission, and that HammondCare has the capacity and capability to host the research institutionally.

Once the Research Governance Committee has approved the research; you have obtained and submitted all relevant ethics approvals to the Research Governance Office; and an agreed research agreement has been signed by authorised signatories, you will receive final governance approval. You may be asked to submit further information related to Research Governance before your approval letter is issued by the Committee.

When your research is in progress or complete

4. Project in Progress

When the research is underway, HammondCare will require ongoing 6-monthly updates for how you are tracking against your research plan. You will also need to keep the RGO informed of any changes to the project as they arise. Researchers are required to ensure all documentation and ethics amendments approvals and safety reporting documents are submitted to the RGO to ensure the project continues to meet local, national, and international requirements for research.

5. Project Completion

When the research concludes, researchers are required to complete and submit a Project Close Out and Translation to Care Form. This should tell HammondCare your final plans for translating research outcomes into practice. Additionally, researchers need to submit to the RGO the Final Report submitted to their Ethics Committee.
