Ocean Rockpool Tour Charity Swim makes waves for dementia

This annual event, now in its third year, saw over 60 participants diving into the waters of Sydney's Northern Beaches in January to raise funds and awareness for dementia and mental health.

At the heart of this initiative is Bill Yeates, whose personal journey with Younger Onset Dementia inspired the creation of this event. Originating from the creative mind of Bill's friend, Mick Harrold, the event has garnered support from a dedicated team including Bill himself, Simon Rorke, and Bill's twin brother Peter. Together, the four friends started this fundraiser to support not only Bill but also the broader community impacted by mental health.

Thanks to the fantastic support from the community, the event surpassed its fundraising goal, raising over $50,000. These funds will play an important role in supporting programs and initiatives dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness, including dementia, their families and carers and promoting mental health wellbeing in our community.

HammondCare Foundation received a generous donation of close to $7,700, which will directly support respite services and social clubs for people living with dementia in the Northern Beaches area.

We are very grateful to Bill and the team and look forward to partnering on future projects to support people with dementia.
