What is overnight respite care?
When you are a carer, it’s important to take some time out to rest, recharge or take a holiday.
Overnight respite care provides temporary relief to primary caregivers, while offering guests a comfortable homelike environment.
Respite guests are supported with daily tasks, provided with a wide range of social activities
and can enjoy delicious meals prepared fresh daily.
Respite guests can also enjoy single rooms that are spacious, well-maintained, and come complete with individual adjustable
electric beds, built-in wardrobes, bedside tables, and reading chairs.
Features of our new cottage
> Five private bedrooms, each with its own ensuite
> Single-level design, central kitchen and relaxing lounge areas
> Landscaped gardens, covered patio, and private backyard
> Onsite staff accommodation to ensure 24/7 support

Thoughtfully designed for Gymea Bay
The new respite cottage at Gymea Bay has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a home away from home, offering high-quality care in a familiar, local setting. Opening later this year, the cottage will provide a safe and welcoming space where guests feel supported and carers can take a much-needed break with peace of mind.
Being part of the neighbourhood is central to our approach. Staying connected to the local community helps guests maintain a sense of belonging and routine, while creating opportunities for meaningful social connection in a warm, home-like environment.

What are the options for Overnight Respite Care?
We offer three types of Respite Care for older people or those who are living with dementia: Centre-based Respite including Social Clubs; In-home Respite Care, supported by a care team in your own home; and Overnight Respite at one of our purpose-built Respite Cottages.
How do I access Respite Care?
If you are caring for an older person, or a person living with dementia, you may be eligible to receive subsidised from the Government. To access in-home Respite contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au.
How much does Respite Care cost (including 24/7 in-home Respite)?
Centre-based Respite, In-home Respite and Overnight Respite Care can be covered by either your Commonwealth Home Support Programme funding, Home Care Package funding or self-funded. Prices vary depending on whether Respite Care is provided out of hours or within normal hours. Please call us on 1800 998 111 if you would like to discuss more about costs or pricing.
What is in-home Respite?
In-home respite provides short-term personalised care in the client's own home with a trained and experienced care worker. Our team takes the time to get to know each client and understand individual needs.
Does my Home Care package cover Day Respite Care?
Yes, you can pay for in-home Respite through your Home Care Package. Our Social Clubs and Overnight Respite Cottages are funded through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and guests attending our services do require the correct referral code. If you are on a Home Care Package, please call us on 1800 998 111 and we can direct you to speak with a Service Manager who can discuss your individual circumstance.
How much Respite Care are you allowed?
The number of weeks or days can differ depending on the funding being accessed, either Commonwealth Home Support Programme or Home Care Package, or if paying privately for Respite Care. Each of our Respite Care services provide short-term and flexible support. In-home Respite can be accessed on a weekly basis and is flexible to meet the needs of the carer and client.
