Edith is very sociable by nature and loves to sing and perform, which is why she
joined a local Senior Citizens’ Choir. Recently though Edith has had to adjust to a
significant lifestyle change - yet she keeps smiling through it all: her husband Benito
moved into residential care and Edith’s own health challenges have limited her ability
to drive very far from home.
Well known for her bubbly personality and her ability to make people smile, Edith
phones HammondCare Support nearly every week with a compliment or two for the
support she receives from the Illawarra home care team.
‘Edith is so appreciative; the feedback means a lot,’ shares Pastoral Care
Coordinator Melanie. The team work together to provide support for Edith so she can
continue to enjoy living at home and be a part of her community.
Care Manager Kelly adds: ‘We are passionate about supporting Edith. She is a joy to
be around.’
Another team member who supports Edith at home is HammondCare volunteer,
Georgia, 20, a classically trained singer who visits every Friday when she has a
break from university. The pair love sharing their favourite sheet music, belting out a
variety of tunes across a range of genres. One of Edith’s favourites is ‘Born Free.’
The local team love seeing the bond between the two flourish over these regular
visits.
‘Age has no barriers especially when it comes to music. I wasn’t expecting it to be so
much fun’ says Edith with one of her trademark smiles.
