Peggy's resistance to go to hospital for palliative care reflected her desire to remain at home during her declining health, and the support provided by the Foundation was crucial in enabling her to do so.
Distressed by their mother’s situation but wanting to honour her wishes to stay at home, her daughters felt overwhelmed, and sought urgent assistance. With the collective help and wisdom of HammondCare’s Community Palliative Nurse Care Consultant, Jon, and Occupational Therapist (OT), Gabrielle, a hospital bed was swiftly arranged through the HammondCare Foundation, arriving promptly a few days later.
Peggy's condition improved with the hospital bed and comprehensive health support, allowing her to remain at home in her final months, fulfilling her wishes. Peggy expressed her gratitude, stating, "I want to remain in control of the decisions I make, and you respected that."
Her daughters were deeply relieved to receive this swift and tailored support, with OT Gabrielle sharing, “Being able to facilitate the funded bed through the Foundation made a real difference to reduce all family member’s stress at a time where things needed to be rapidly addressed to maintain Peggy’s comfort and dignity at home.”
