Music remembers me - Connection and wellbeing in dementia

Music remembers me - Connection and wellbeing in dementia brings to life the experience of people living with dementia and their interaction with music through an Australian-first project involving more than 700 aged care residents.

While a diagnosis of dementia may be stressful and challenging, this book equips people living with dementia and those who support them with positive, meaningful ways of using music to enjoy experiences together-maximising feeling and connection.

Music remembers me includes moving stories from music engagement at HammondCare - one of Australia's leading health and aged care providers - along with practical advice and tips about introducing music into daily care. Author Kirsty Beilharz has woven together fascinating insights into music, our brains and dementia with practical advice on music engagement. This ground-breaking book is written with the general reader in mind and is certain to be a vital resource for supporting people living with dementia in Australia and around the world.

'Music remembers me: Connection and wellbeing in dementia is for the general reader. While the research is available for professional medical practitioners and allied workers, very little is available in the way of useful information for the everyday person who may be affected by dementia in some way.' - Richard Gill AO

‘Music is limitless in its capacity to heal. As a violinist I know this from personal experience and from the work I do in the area of healing. The vibration of sound arranged into a piece or song, resonates through the layers of our being. It engages the brain and connects the soul. Music is medicine.’ - Kirsten Williams, Associate Concertmaster, Sydney Symphony Orchestra

‘What a joy—a book about music and people with dementia that is for everyone not just academics or music therapists. Music remembers mewill be of immense interest and use to everyone involved in supporting and caring for people with dementia.' - Professor Diana Kerr, Dementia Consultant and author
