Talking about dying needn't be taboo, it's a normal part of life

We don’t like to talk about dying, but it’s important. Like birth, dying is a normal part of life.

This is why we have developed Last Days, a program to help people who are supporting a family member or friend who is dying.

Last Days covers what to expect when someone is dying, making space for open conversations about a person’s wishes and preferences as they approach the end of their life. There are specific workshops aimed at supporting a person living with dementia who is approaching their final months, weeks or days.

What do you learn at a Last Days workshop?

  • How we die and the role of palliative care
  • What a 'good death' is and the choices we have
  • How to have conversations about dying and plan for what’s ahead
  • Practical matters to get affairs in order
  • Care choices as we near death
  • Grief and loss
  • Rituals, rules and regulations around death

What have people who attended Last Days said?

“It helped me to realise I do know how to look after a dying person. Made me feel more empowered and realise I can do it.”

“Will help me cope with any eventuality. So informative and delivered so beautifully.”

“It concreted in me the feeling that we need to talk about death and dying much more - the facilitator was brilliant - death is not a morbid subject and she was able to get this over to us all.”

“Fantastic resources and ideas for helping the dying, caring and grieving”

“Relative to Mum’s current situation, reinforced the benefit of talking and gentle massage and touch (holding hand)”
