Caring brings a sense of joy and trust for Carmon

At HammondCare we always strive to consider the individual needs of our clients, and how we can make a positive difference for the lives of those we care for.

Our relationship-based approach means we’re always learning from the people in our care - their talents, passions, unique stories and what fulfills and enriches their lives.

HammondCare At Home client Carmon was initially reserved when it came to sharing her interests. When introduced to Angela from the Brisbane team, she preferred to continue to enjoy her own activities independently.

Angela set out to try to get to know Carmon, observing her interests, and looking for the things that brought her joy and purpose. Angela wanted to connect with Carmon and suggest new hobbies which they could share together. She saw that Carmon loved creative activities; her family had already purchased colouring-in books for her. Since Carmon enjoyed doing this on her own, Angela was resourceful in finding other artistic activities that they could spend time on together.

While searching in different stores, she eventually came across a unique twist on the colouring books she knew Angela already loved, when she found a sticker version.

“We sat for an hour and a half and finished the picture. Carmon had lots of smiles and a few laughs that day; generally she doesn’t say much. We took photos and overall had a great visit.

“Carmon’s husband Joe has since bought more crafts for us to complete during my visits. After this breakthrough, Carmon is more accepting of me coming to the house, and is okay for me to stay while Joe goes out shopping.”
