A legacy of care: Hoang’s mission to give back

For Hoang Nguyen, giving back is deeply personal. He was inspired to start fundraising after his father, Quyen, spent his final days at Braeside Hospital’s palliative care ward. The quality of care and compassion shown by the palliative care team, along with thoughtful facilities such as the chapel and kitchenette, left a lasting impression. Witnessing this care during an incredibly difficult time sparked Hoang’s desire to give back to the place that meant so much to his family.

"This is where my father was cared for," he says. “This is where I want to give back.”

With the support of his wife and a strong connection to the local community, Hoang founded the Organisation that Spreads Love. Working with the Braeside and Hammond Foundation  teams and the local Vietnamese community, he has successfully organised five fundraising events to date, bringing people together for a meaningful cause.

On Saturday 14 March 2026, that gratitude once again turned into action as more than 500 people gathered for a vibrant gala dinner. An incredible $30,000 was raised to support patient care at Braeside Hospital. Bringing together locals, Vietnamese entertainers and HammondCare teams, it was a memorable night of goodwill, connection and shared appreciation for the care that has touched many families.

The funds raised through Hoang’s efforts have contributed to essential equipment for Braeside’s rehabilitation gym, making a difference in the day-to-day life for patients and the team.

Community at the heart of better care

Each event is organised by Hoang, with support from his wife, and shaped by his hands-on approach. Drawing on his experience attending other fundraisers, he focuses on creating events that are not only enjoyable, but sustainable. From ensuring the safety of older guests to maintaining high-quality food and entertainment, every detail is carefully considered.

“I always think about how to make things easier,” he says. “Everything has to be good quality.”

The result is an event that people return to year after year, strengthening community ties while making a real difference to patient care. We are deeply grateful for Hoang’s generosity and continued passion for supporting others in need.
