Joyce has enjoyed a busy, eventful life in the Lithgow district where she grew up.
Her early memories are of walking three miles to school and back home again with
her four siblings, pulling up turnips and drying them in the sun, collecting firewood -
and long days in the sunshine playing marbles, hopscotch and climbing trees.
At the age of 15 Joyce started working in the local Hollywood Café, and during the
war she was sent to the Royal Air Force factory in Lithgow, to join the assembly line
that made parts for guns.
Joyce still lives in the same Lithgow home she shared with husband Bill when they
married in 1947 and was thrilled to receive visitors Eliza and Briony from our local
team on her birthday - who arrived with flowers, a card and cake to share.
Over a cuppa, Joyce reminisced about life in the Central West and how different it is
now compared to living on the land, with so many new inventions and discoveries
over the last century making things easier.
Eliza and team members Brigitte, Briony, Mikayala, Sarah, Brodee and other
specialised carers from the Lithgow team work together to provide support for Joyce
in her home.
Eliza shares: ‘It’s a privilege to support Joyce, so that she can continue to enjoy
living at home and stay deeply connected with her local community.’
Joyce’s daughters Carol and Diane organised a Birthday party in nearby Hartley to celebrate Joyce’s wonderful life for 80 extended family members and friends, including her five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren who all call her ‘Old Nan’ – a nickname she loves.
Best wishes Joyce on your centenary milestone!
