A life limiting diagnosis can be very challenging to face. And at this special time of year, it can be especially tough for people who are ill or facing the loss of a loved one.

With your support, HammondCare is there to provide for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in our care.

This includes being there for families like Duncan’s (pictured above) with community palliative care, pastoral care, support groups, in-patient care and bereavement support.

Just before Christmas three years ago, devoted young dad Duncan and his family were struggling with the devastating news that he had stage 4 cancer. For over two years, we supported them throughout their journey, with the focus on providing Duncan with the best possible quality of life in the time they had left.

Through HammondCare’s Dreams Project, they were able to take a much-needed week’s holiday to the Gold Coast and the far-north coast of NSW.

This gave the family a chance to think about Duncan as a person and everyone as a family, not just the cancer and his treatment.

“Thanks to the Dreams Project we were able to have a wonderful holiday and forget about cancer for a while,” Fiona says. “It was such a blessing. We made such happy, precious memories.”

This will be Fiona and the children’s first Christmas without Duncan. But, thanks to our supporters, the special memories you have helped them make will bring them enormous comfort.

“The difference HammondCare can make at one of the most difficult times of someone's life is huge and so significant. It was the most stable care and support we had throughout the last years of Duncan's life.”

Please, consider making a donation today to help people like Duncan and his family feel wrapped in love and care – and give them the opportunity to create the happiest of memories this Christmas.
