Sky News' Kieran Gilbert interviews CEO Dr Stephen Judd

'No one should be having a crack at any provider' about their nursing home visitation arrangements which are 'difficult decisions', according to HammondCare CEO Dr Stephen Judd, who was speaking to Kieran Gilbert of Sky News about HammondCare's approach and a recent resident and representative survey.

'These are difficult decisions and different environments demand different responses,' he said.

Dr Judd then described HammondCare's approach of continuing to allow some visits, which has been supported by the resident and representatives survey.

Eighty six per cent of respondents were in favour of being able to visit their loved ones in residential care and even when asked about increased risk, two thirds or two in three people, said they wanted visits to continue.

"Physical wellbeing needs to be balanced with social and emotional and mental wellbeing," Dr Judd said.

"In attempt to eliminate one risk, there's a danger of introducing other risks such as loneliness and mental health needs."
