Celebrating 90 years of care

It’s been 90 years since Anglican Archdeacon, Rob Hammond, took the first step towards building the HammondCare we know today. This was during the depression when inner-city Sydney families were being driven from their rented homes. Bob cashed in his own life assurance policy to buy land and construct new properties. He then offered a rent-purchase program to the homeless which gave them an opportunity to enjoy the dignity and security of owning their own home.

From here, HammondCare grew to provide the wide range of services offered today, which now include residential care, home care, community and respite care including our cottages and social clubs, palliative and pastoral care, older person’s mental health, rehabilitation, dementia care, restorative care, positive ageing, pain management and research. Every aspect of our work continues to be inspired by our founder’s great courage, vision and Christian faith.

To celebrate our birthday, we have introduced an annual Bob Hammond Award. The first recipient was HammondCare team member Ravi Chand who, on receiving the Award from CEO Mike Baird, captured the spirit of HammondCare perfectly when he said, “In care, we all meet to make a good team.”
