Up to 150 jobs on offer as HammondCare expands in the Hunter

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity, expects to fill the positions within the next 12 months – including 50 before August.

Most of the jobs will be at the $30 million showpiece HammondCare Cardiff aged care village following its stage one opening in August.

The Cardiff project utilises HammondCare’s internationally-acclaimed design expertise in creating an enabling environment for people living with dementia. About 30 jobs will need to be filled for stage one with up to another 80 jobs to be filled as the project is completed next year.

HammondCare also announced last month it was relaunching Tinonee Gardens, the Multicultural Village with a new name, HammondCare Waratah (Tinonee Gardens), to revitalise the 232 bed aged care home. The charity has been recruiting to fill over 30 permanent positions, by June 30 at Waratah.

HammondCare Head of Residential Care North Nicola Nolan said the new Cardiff facility and the re-launching of Waratah establishes HammondCare as a major provider of residential aged care in the Hunter.

The charity already operates Strathearn House and Strathearn Village at Scone. It has offered HammondCare at Home services in the Hunter for 10 years.

“HammondCare is known nationally and internationally as one of Australia’s most innovative health and aged care providers,” Ms Nolan said.

“We are very excited to offer our model of care, centring on getting to know each person and their family so that care and support is tailored, in a more significant way in the Hunter.”

Many of the 150 jobs available will be as care workers who will be recruited based on their passion for supporting older people. A Certificate III qualification would be desirable but not essential for these roles. Training is provided.

There will also be up to 10 registered nurses, administration staff, pastoral care workers, a volunteer co-ordinator, workplace trainer and other positions.
