HammondCare is highly commended in GIO National Safety Awards

Leading aged care provider, HammondCare, has been highly commended in the GIO National Safety Awards for its ongoing work, health and safety communication program “Taking Care Is Our Business” (TCB).

General Manager, Residential Care, Angela Raguz, said the purpose of the program was to engage staff in fostering an active safety culture.

“Through TCB we have developed bi-monthly focus messages based on trends, known high-risk activities, requests for information from staff and wellbeing initiatives from across the organisation,” she said.

“The TCB brand focuses on a central astronaut character who shares key safety messages. The key messages have been communicated to staff throughout the organisation using humorous videos and comic strips, supplemented with information sheets and supporting materials.

“We wanted to cut through the monotony of safety messages by developing communication that was unexpectedly fun."

“Since TCB launched in June 2015, hazard reporting has improved significantly and injuries and hazards leading to incidents have declined. Ongoing feedback about the program through the TCB Committees has also demonstrated an increased engagement with workplace safety throughout HammondCare.”

Ms Raguz congratulated the team behind TCB, and all HammondCare staff, for their focus on developing an improved safety culture.

HammondCare was presented with its award at the 2017 NSCA Foundation / GIO Workers Compensation National Safety Awards of Excellence on Thursday 12 October.
