Volunteers make garden bloom

Spring has come early to Hammondville thanks to a team of volunteers from Teleflex and BNE Lawn & Garden Maintenance.

The gardens along Judd Avenue were looking in need of a freshen up partly due to the redevelopment of the historic Bond House.

Within hours last Friday the garden was unrecognisable with some new plants, turf, wood chips and a bit of TLC from a hard-working team of volunteers.

Giving back to the community

Teleflex Medical, an international medical technology provider, partnered with HammondCare by injecting some life and colour into the street for aged care residents, staff and members of the public to enjoy.  22 volunteers from all kinds of roles within Teleflex took part, including HR associate Siobhan Rosser.

“It was a great opportunity to help out and make a difference to HammondCare and the community,” Ms Rosser said.

“There was a general consensus that the physical side of gardening and landscaping was a great initiative as it was outside of our usual day-to-day office environment.”

Ms Rosser said the team enjoyed seeing the fruits of their labour, and some took the time to chat with residents of the independent living units across the road.

An ongoing relationship with HammondCare

“We loved the fact that people were interested in the makeover. This will be an ongoing relationship with HammondCare and we’re looking forward to future possibilities where Teleflex can assist to make even the smallest impact to the community,” she said.

The day of action was part of Teleflex’s JOIN Act with Purpose program in recognition of its 75th anniversary, as part of the company’s commitment to improving the health and quality of people’s lives.

BNE Lawn & Garden Maintenance provided a supervisor and supplies free of charge for the day, and HammondCare volunteers put on a barbeque lunch after everyone worked up an appetite in the finger-numbing temperature.

HammondCare Residential Care General Manager Angela Raguz said she was grateful for the support from Teleflex Medical and BNE Lawn & Garden Maintenance.

“HammondCare prioritises ease of access to well-designed, attractive outdoor areas because we know how much they benefit people of all ages,” Ms Raguz said.

“This upgrade to the gardens will certainly be enjoyed by residents, as well as the staff and members of the public who enjoy spending time around village centre every day.”
