More about the role

The role of Specialised Dementia Carer (SDC) Grade 1 works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to provide personalised care to residents with dementia.  SDC’s provide care and support to residents, enabling them to function within the home. SDCs assist with the full range of duties, including personal care, maintenance of the home (eg. cooking, cleaning, laundry, gardening) and provide opportunities for residents to engage in activities of daily living (eg. participation in domestic tasks), leisure activities and wider community involvement.

All SDCs work together as a team to give each resident the opportunity to succeed at activities of daily living which promote dignity, self-respect and maintain the resident’s quality of life and abilities. An SDC models appropriate behaviour and encourages a calm, supportive and secure atmosphere.

The role works within the philosophy and core values of HammondCare to ensure that the service is tailored to the needs of the individual clients and delivered in a style that aims to maximise client satisfaction

The essence of this role:

Assist residents with personal care and under supervision, carry out a range of clinical care activities

Undertake the full range of domestic support duties. These duties are carried out in a manner that assists residents to engage in the activities of daily living consistent with their abilities and choice.

Assist resident involvement in a full range of life engagement activities.

About you

  • You genuinely enjoy engaging with older people and have a regard and respect for the older generation;
  • You have an understanding of, or interest in learning more about, dementia and how to build relationships with people with dementia or special needs;
  • You are flexible in your approach to work and hours;
  • You enjoy a degree of responsibility and lots of variety in your job;
  • You enjoy cooking and preparing meals
  • Strong administrative and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy and patience.
