"The Good Sunset Project"
John Killick & Kate Allan
The initial approach for this project came from Richard Fleming, Director of the Dementia Services Development Centre in Sydney, Australia and Stephen Judd, Chief Executive of the Hammond Care Group. The work was part-funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
The idea was to undertake a developmental project looking at ways of communicating with people with advanced dementia with a view to understanding more about their experiences and needs, and thereby improving their quality of life. Included within the scope of the project was to seek a greater understanding of the needs of people with advanced dementia who are dying. We were encouraged to adopt a creative approach to these objectives, and to explore innovative practices and models.
